Then Jesus said to them,
“The sabbath was made
for humankind,
and not humankind
for the sabbath;"
-Mark 2:27
The Sabbath Project

Purpose

The Sabbath Project is a ministry of the Northern Great Lakes Synod, ELCA.
It is a three year pilot project with three primary purposes:

  • One to one conversations with church leaders on wholeness, well-being and vocational life.
  • The nurture and encouragement of peer support, colleague groups
  • Retreat based enrichment programs for the sake of Sabbath renewal

The Approach

  • We are all created in the image of God
  • We have a longing for Sabbath
  • We grow when we find trustworthy & meaningful community
  • Our vocational vitality is enhanced through effective practices of self-care

Ways to Participate

  • You will be invited to join in one to one conversations to explore your own patterns of self-care and sources of resilience. And, if you wish, have the project director lead worship in the congregation/ministry you serve.

  • You can participate in the development of colleague groups, close to home, to provide ongoing occasions for peer support and encouragement in the work of self-care and vocational enrichment.

  • You can enroll in either or both of the two personal/vocational enrichment programs which will be offered for leaders in the Northern Great Lakes Synod to provide opportunity for Sabbath renewal.
